  • Maratonistul formelor si ideilor


    Traiectul sculptorului pare a fi cel al alergatorului de cursa lunga. S-a inscris pe orbita artelor frumoase gratie unei priviri, cea a invatatorului de neuitat pentru gestul sau premonitoriu, care a descoperit grauntele uranic al talentului intr-un copil din Orezeni, un satuc spanzurat pe coastele dealurilor din preajma Iasilor. Sculptorul Alexandru Pamfil, vietuitor azi la Galati, unde este custode al Muzeului de Arta Contemporana, si-a asumat vocatia revelata in modul acesta, ca pe o misiune de esenta divina. N-a precupetit de-a lungul anilor vietii sale, 56, impliniti in februarie 2009, nici o farama de energie ca sa-si atinga telul, sa ajunga, mistuindu-se, la maraton, ca sa vesteasca in fata semenilor victoria. E vorba de victoria frumosului, caruia i s-a robit intreaga-i existenta. Scolaritatea sa artistica la Iasi si la Cluj a stat sub semnul acestei nepotolitei dorinte a bunei rostuiri si impliniri. Aspiratia spre perfectiune l-a dominat pe Alexandru Pamfil si el si-a dorit fierbinte ca tot ceea ce tinea de tainele artei sculpturale sa nu-i ramana deloc strain. Puterea de absorbtie s-a dovedit la fel de mare ca si setea de cunoastere. Stradaniile lui neostenite au privit stapanirea de adanc a tuturor componentelor mestesugului. A avut norocul sa gaseasca la Cluj, unde a studiat la Institutul "Ion Andreescu", la clasa de sculptura, conditiile prielnice, ateliere dotate, si astfel a deprins secretele prelucrarii feluritelor materiale de sculptura, de la ipsos la bronz, de la piatra la neferoase si pamant.

    Stapan pe unelte, tehnici si manuitor de har al desenului, matricea sculpturalitatii celei mai rafinate, cu care se nascuse parca in sange, Alexandru Pamfil a putut sa treaca la cristalizarea stilului si la croirea viziunii artistice proprii. S-a inscris in acel curent fertil, caracteristic sculpturii moderne de dupa Brancusi innoitorul, cel al esentializarii si sintezei. Alexandru Pamfil a preluat si recreat motive si simboluri vechi ale spiritualitatii universale si romanesti. Le-a dat nou trup in mojarul simtirii si gandirii sale asupra lumii. S-a straduit, cu alte cuvinte, sa-si afle expresia definitorie. Sinteza, careia i-a dat nastere, este fructul reunirii osmotice a figurativului si abstractului. In sculptura lui Alexandru Pamfil cele doua parti ale intregului se potenteaza reciproc si se pun in valoare. Aceasta lucrare intru impreuna e menita sa lumineze mesajul filosofic al creatiilor, miezul acela de talc, de idee, inchis ca intr-un sambure in zamislirile compozitionale sau portretistice, in desenele cu impaienjeniri creatoare de universuri parca necuprinse. Gratia si forta se intalnesc in intruchiparile sculpturale ale lui Alexandru Pamfil. O lumina interioara, mitica, pulseaza din lucrarile modelate cu iubire si iscusinta de artizan care pretuieste mult desavarsirea formei. Preocuparea pentru o executie maiestrita isi pune amprenta pe toate piesele, faurite de un mester al fineturilor, atent la detaliu, dar si grijuliu cu ansamblu si cu osebire preocupat a gandi dispunerea in spatiu si fiintarea in topos a plasmuirilor sale. Artistul nu neglijeaza, dimpotriva valorifica subtil virtutile de expresivitate ale materiei originare, pe care stie sa le scoata cu pricepere in evidenta.

    Maratonistul e in plin fuleu in drumul sau de alergator de cursa lunga. Isi trage puterile din tot ceea ce-l inconjoara si care-i este izvor de energie creatoare. Setea de cunoastere, dorinta de perfectionare sunt la fel de vii ca la inceputuri, cand a pornit sa alerge in Maratonul frumusetii. Expozitia de la Galeria "Dana" din Iasi, cea mai recenta aparitie a sa in fata publicului, pregatita migalos, potrivit obiceiului si credintelor sale despre rostul artistului in lume, ni-l infatiseaza pe Alexandru Pamfil intr-un anotimp al pargului, dar incarcat de semne prevestitoare de roade si mai bogate in viitor.

    The Marathon Runner of Forms and Ideas


    The sculptor's course seems to be that of the long-distance runner. He joined the orbit of the fine arts thanks to a glance, that of his schoolteacher whom he will never forget for his premonitory gesture, who discovered the uranic grain of talent in a child from Orzeni, a little village hanging on the hill slopes around Iasi. Sculptor Alexandru Pamfil, who is living in Galati, where he is custodian if the Museum of Contemporary Art, assumed the calling thus revealed, as if it were a mission of divine essence. Throughout his life (he turned 56 in February 2009), he has not spared any drop of energy to attain his end, to get there, burning, running the marathon, to tell his peers about the victory. The victory of the beautiful to which he has submitted his whole existence. His artistic schooling in Iasi and Cluj was under the sign of this impetuous desire for attainment and accomplishment. The aspiration for perfection has always dominated Alexandru Pamfil as he has desperately wanted to decipher all the secrets of sculpture. His power of absorption has proved as big as his thirst for knowledge. His untiring efforts have focused on the thorough command of all components of the craft. He was fortunate enough to find in Cluj, where he studied sculpture at Ion Andreescu Institute, appropriate conditions, well-equipped studios, and thus he was able to learn the secrets of processing various materials used in sculpture, from plaster to bronze, from stone to non-ferrous metals and clay.

    Mastering his tools and techniques, a skilful commander of drawing, the matrix of the most refined sculpturality, which he seems to have been born into, Alexandru Pamfil was able to crystallize his style and shape his own artistic vision. He joined the fertile trend, characteristic of the modern sculpture after Brancusi the Renewer, that of essence and synthesis. Alexandru Pamfil has taken over and recreated old motifs and symbols of world and Romanian spirituality. He has given them a new body in the melting pot of his feelings and thoughts about the world. In other words, he has struggled to find his defining expression. The synthesis he created is the fruit of the osmotic reunion of the figurative and the abstract. In Alexandru Pamfil's sculpture, the two parts of the whole strengthen and emphasize each other. This get-together effort is meant to light the philosophical message of his works, that meaningful core, the idea closed like in a kernel in compositions and portraits, in drawings with seemingly boundless universe-engendering webs. Grace and strength meet in Alexandru Pamfil's sculptural embodiments. A mythic inner light pulses in the works shaped with the love and skill of an artisan who appreciates perfect forms. Care for exquisite execution marks all the works, created by a refined craftsman, very keen on details and the whole, especially when it comes to the layout and the integration in the topos of his creations. The artist does not neglect, on the contrary, he subtly turns to good account the expressive virtues of the original matter that he knows how to skillfully point out.

    The marathon runner is still at his fastest. He draws his strength from everything that surrounds him, a true spring of creative energy. His thirst for knowledge, and his desire to improve are as vivid as in the beginning, when he started to compete in the Marathon of Beauty. The exhibition at Dana Gallery in Iasi, his most recent appearance before the public, thoroughly prepared, according to his rules and beliefs about the artist's purpose in the world, shows Alexandru Pamfil in a ripening season, laden with signs of even richer fruits in future.
